The cabinet of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, taking advantage of the situation in Syria, continues its aggressive actions by expanding Zionist settlements in the occupied Golan Heights.
According to recent reports and satellite images, Israel is constructing a new military base in Syrian-controlled areas near the Golan Heights. Satellite images reviewed by The Washington Post show that Israel has built several buildings and stationed vehicles in a fenced-off base near the village of Jubata al-Khashab in Quneitra Province. Additionally, a similar structure has been built about five miles south of this area. These two bases are connected to the Golan Heights, which Israel occupied in 1967, through newly built dirt roads.
These actions indicate Israel's long-term presence in the region. Contrary to Tel Aviv’s claims that these facilities are temporary, it appears that Israel is seeking to strengthen its military presence and expand settlements in the Golan Heights. These moves have faced international reactions. Saudi Arabia has condemned Israel’s decision to expand settlements in the occupied Golan Heights, calling it an obstacle to Syria’s return to security.
Global Condemnation
The Golan Heights have been under Israeli occupation since 1967, and the international community does not recognize this occupation. However, in recent years, Israel has continued expanding settlements and strengthening its military presence in the region.
Qatar (QNA) – The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement, described the approval of settlement expansion in the occupied Golan Heights as another link in the chain of Israeli aggression against Syrian territory and a blatant violation of international law.
Qatar has called on the international community to fulfill its legal and moral responsibility to force the occupiers to halt their aggression against Syria and comply with international law.
The Jordanian Foreign Ministry has also condemned the expansion of settlements in the Golan Heights. Sufyan Al-Qudah, spokesperson for the Jordanian Foreign Ministry, emphasized the need to preserve Syria’s unity and territorial integrity.
The Zionist regime, during its aggression against Syrian territory, had claimed that the occupation of these areas was temporary, but the deployment of its military equipment and satellite images contradict this claim. Turkey has also strongly condemned these actions by the Zionist regime.
It is worth noting that these settlements are not limited to Israeli civilians; the new bases being built are entirely military.
Israel already has two bases, Har Avital and Fara, in the Golan Heights and is conducting these new operations in the Syrian buffer zone.
